Mariah Carey Grabs A Piece Of History From Janet Jackson

Mariah Carey has appeared at No. 1 on different Billboard charts so many times she might not even be able to count the number of weeks in which she’s ruled. Decades into her career, the superstar leads the charge once again on a tally in America as she collects a new winner. Thanks to the longevity of her career, Carey makes history with her latest champion and breaks a record previously held by another one of the most celebrated female performers of the last several decades.“Type Dangerous” Hits No. 1Carey’s single “Type Dangerous” lifts from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart, nine weeks into its time on the radio ranking. The lead single from Carey’s upcoming album Here for It All gives her yet another leader, and according to Billboard, it helps her earn a new spot in chart history.

Mariah Carey Grabs Janet Jackson’s Radio RecordIt has been just under 19 years since Carey last controlled the Adult R&B Airplay chart. That stretch now stands as the longest in between rulers for a woman in the ranking’s decades-long history. That honor used to belong to Janet Jackson, who waited between 1998 and 2015 when her songs “I Get Lonely” and “No Sleeep” dominated.

We Belong Together” and “Fly Like a Bird”Carey has now collected just three No. 1s on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. She first made it to the top spot in the summer of 2005 with “We Belong Together.” That track lived on the tally for 38 weeks, eight of which were at No. 1. The following summer, “Fly Like a Bird” flapped its wings and soared to the top spot, earning half a dozen turns on the throne.

Type Dangerous” is on the Way DownMore than two months into its life on a number of Billboard tallies, “Type Dangerous” is largely declining, although it seems that older R&B fans have a soft spot for the Grammy winner. “Type Dangerous” climbs not only the Adult R&B Airplay chart, but also the Hot R&B Songs tally, a general consumption list. The tune is on the decline on a pair of pop radio lists and the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay ranking.“Sugar Sweet” Debuts on Multiple Radio ChartsAs “Type Dangerous” begins to fall, “Sugar Sweet” — Carey’s newly-released collaboration with Shenseea and Kehlani — debuts on multiple airplay rankings. That track, also taken from her forthcoming album, seems to only just be getting started.
