Missy Elliott has reached a settlement with a music producer who claimed to have co-written several of her songs from the 1990s.

The move ends a long-running legal dispute, days before a jury trial was due to begin.

The agreement puts paid to a lawsuit filed by Terry Williams, who claims he and Elliott collaborated on numerous songs in the 1990s, and that she refused to credit him as a co-writer.

The long-running lawsuit, first filed in 2018, revolves around SISTA—the R&B group Missy Elliott performed with before launching her solo career.

Terry Williams, a Philadelphia-based music producer and former studio owner, alleged that he co-wrote four tracks on SISTA’s 1994 album 4 All the Sistas Around da World. He claimed Elliott excluded him from the songwriting credits and sought royalties dating back to the album’s release.

Elliott has consistently denied the claims, stating that Williams “did not write a single lyric or contribute in any way to the songs.”

Her attorney told Billboard: “No money was paid in connection with any of Terry Williams’ claims, the last remnants of which were dismissed.”
