Jasmine Crockett Tears Into MAGA Rhetoric Following Kirk Death: ‘I Am Going On Facts’
Rep. Jasmine Crockett Slams Conservatives for Blaming Democrats in Charlie Kirk’s Shooting
Texas Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett is calling out Republicans and conservative media figures who immediately pointed fingers at Democrats following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, the right-wing activist and close ally of former President Donald Trump. Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University, sparking a wave of heated partisan rhetoric.
Crockett: “We Don’t Even Know Who Did What”
Speaking Friday, Crockett condemned the rush to assign political blame before facts were established.
“I hate that some of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle immediately came out and they were like, ‘Oh, you know, this is on the Democrats,’” Crockett said. “Like, we don’t even know who did what. And y’all are like, ‘This is on the Democrats.’”
Crockett stressed that no evidence had confirmed the motive behind Kirk’s killing, making partisan accusations both reckless and divisive.
Conservatives Blame Democrats, Media, and Trans Community
Despite the lack of confirmed motive, numerous conservatives claimed that Democrats and mainstream media were responsible for Kirk’s death.
- Fox News host Jesse Watters told his audience that “they” are “at war with us.”
- Donald Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, directly accused “the radical left.”
- Donald Trump Jr. and Megyn Kelly went further, blaming the transgender community. Trump Jr. compared trans people to being “more violent than Al-Qaeda,” while Kelly claimed many were “murderous.”
Crockett criticized this rhetoric, saying conservatives were quick to attack marginalized groups rather than focus on facts or call for unity.
Political Violence or Personal Attack?
Crockett also noted that while political violence is a serious concern, it has not been confirmed that Kirk’s killing was politically motivated.
“Obviously, the first thing that anybody would say — and you didn’t have any Democrat that went out there and said otherwise — is, ‘We’re denouncing political violence,’” Crockett said.
Drawing from her background as a criminal defense attorney, she added that most of the violent crimes she had encountered were personal disputes, not politically driven acts.
Reminder: Republicans Have Also Produced Political Assailants
Crockett further argued that if Kirk’s shooter was politically motivated, conservatives should examine how radicalization works on both sides.
She pointed to previous attempts on Trump’s life:
- Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man who tried to assassinate Trump in Pennsylvania last year, was a registered Republican.
- Ryan Routh, accused of trying to shoot Trump at his Florida golf club, was previously a Trump supporter.
Confusion Over Evidence at the Scene
Initial reports suggested that shell casings at the scene were engraved with “transgender and antifascist ideology.” However, that claim has already been walked back in an editor’s note by The Wall Street Journal, raising doubts about early speculation.
Motive Still Unknown
Although a suspect has been caught in the shooting of Charlie Kirk, no confirmed motive has been established. Crockett urged restraint and warned against fueling division while investigators continue their work.
